About Catahoula Leopard Cur
The Catahoula Leopard Cur, the official state dog of Louisiana, is well known as a working dog. They are energetic and highly intelligent which means that they require a great deal of mental and physical stimulation to thrive. They are best suited for the outdoors, and in rural areas where they are allowed to run and exercise. These dogs are not happy in an urban setting with no place to play. The Catahoula Leopard Curs come in a variety of colors, usually exhibiting a mottled appearance, and may have one or more glass eye. The Catahoula is not for the faint of heart, because of their need for constant obedience reinforcement. But for the Catahoula owner, there is no other breed like them. They are loyal and territorial making them excellent guard dogs and companions. They are used for herding, hog hunting, coon hunting, bear hunting, squirrel hunting, and for blood trailing wounded hogs and deer. The Catahoula is not an aggressive dog, but they are very protective. They will not start a fight, but they will go to whatever lengths are necessary to protect themselves, their family, and their territory. This breed is best suited for those with pervious experience with large dog breeds, and those which are more assertive.
